William Hogarth, The Painter and his Pug, 1745

This is a picture of a painting within a painting. If you look closely you will see that there is an oval frame surrounding the man; this is a painting of the artist, William Hogarth. Outside the frame there is a dog, books and a painters’ palette.

The dog is a pug; Hogarth loved pugs because he thought they looked a bit like him. Do you think the dog looks like him? The dog’s name was Trump and he belonged to Hogarth. Hogarth also included Trump in some of his other paintings.

  1. Anja, age 4, from England

Once upon a time there was a man and a dog. They lived together. And they loved each other and they went to the park and played ball with each other. The man said that they should go back home soon because it was raining. So they went back home.
