Art bingo

December 20th, 2007 by Young Tate

Tate Forum devised an Art Bingo game around the theme of destruction to explore their ideas further. Here are instructions for playing Art Bingo
1. Select a photograph and choose a pose from a figure within the photo’s composition. Tate Forum chose photographs from the How We Are: Photographing Britain exhibition at Tate Britain.
2. Make a record of this photo via sketch.
3. Take a digital photo of yourself or a friend in your selected pose.
4. Reproduce the digital photo as an A3 image with a grid of 9 numbered boxes, 1 image per person.
5. Each number relates to using a specific medium or material to destruct the image.
6. A number is called out and you must destruct a section of the picture.
7. You have 3-5minutes to destruct a section of the printed photo. Once you have destructed a section of the image pass the image to the person next to you.
8. Wait to be told the corresponding number for the next section and the form of destruction
9. This process will continue until all 9 forms of destruction have been done.

Here is a video response to Jake Chapman’s challenge from Tate Forum

June 27th, 2007 by Jake Chapman

I have looked at your efforts and I am greatly pleased. I think you somewhat sidestepped my first provocation by deciding that you yourselves were your parent’s most valued possessions. I had imagined some nice dresses, ties, ornaments, trinkets and other valuable parental stuff being ‘rectified’… but I guess that was a too much to ask. But since you have shown great sophistication in subverting my attempts to get you into trouble, I would like you to continue on the theme of destruction. This time, forget the face paint and burning things willy-nilly, I want you to make some pieces of art (in any medium) investigating the theme of destruction in art. I would like to pose a question: Is destruction a necessary process in overcoming traditional forms of art?
Good luck. jake.
